Assistive Technology
Technological solutions such as devices, services, strategies, and practices that are used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities are collectively known as Assistive Technology (AT). Note-taking technology is a widely used example of AT at UConn.
The CSDTech team works with students to help identify technologies that address their needs and are mindful of their particular learning styles. There is no cost for CSD's AT services.
We encourage students approved by their DSP for an AT accommodation to schedule an appointment with CSDTech to learn more.
CSDTech Services
Students approved for AT can schedule virtual (unless an in-person appointment is requested) individual appointments with one of the CSDTech team members through their MyAccess portal. Please schedule an appointment first and then email csdtech@uconn.edu to request an in-person appointment. During the appointment, CSDTech may:
- Train students to use assistive technology products offered, such as Notetaking software;
- Loan out AT equipment such as SmartPens, Digital Voice recorders, or licensing software;
- Offer workshops on notetaking software, SmartPens, Microsoft products, and more!
After meeting with a CSDTech team member, students wishing to borrow equipment must fill out a provided Equipment Loan Form. Equipment loans are typically short term, in most cases for one semester, and are due back to the CSD prior to the end of that semester. Students that do not return their loaned equipment may face a hold on their account until the item is returned or the student reimburses the CSD for the item's cost.
