Alternate Media

Alternate (Alt) Media provides students digital access to printed material in formats such as PDF, Word, ePub, large print, Braille, etc.  Students must show proof that they have purchased their books before CSD can convert them to an alternate format.  All Alt Media materials are intended for a student’s individual use and may not be shared with others or duplicated.

Students approved for the Alt Media accommodation can place a request by clicking on the Alt Media tab within MyAccess.  To place a request, they will need to:

• Provide to CSD the following book information from UConn Bookstore’s online textbook search:
  • Title
  • Author
  • ISBN
  • Proof of Purchase (ex. receipt, invoice, email confirmation, etc.)
• Log in to MyAccess, Click on the Alt Media tab on the left, and make the request for each book separately using the information above.  Please submit requests as soon as possible as it make take up to 7 days to provide the digital format.
• Converted files will be shared electronically.  Students then have the option to download and use Text to Speech software (Read&Write) to have text read back (contact csdtech@uconn.edu for assistance if needed)

The CSD will make every attempt to provide materials as promptly as possible.
